Katherine Michos, Psy.D.

People may decide to start therapy for different reasons.  Sometimes people feel a certain emotion such as anxiety or sadness and their usual ways of handling these emotions may no longer be working to their satisfaction.  Other times people feel stuck in some area of their lives and aren’t certain which direction to take.  Whatever clients’ personal reasons are to begin their journey in therapy, I believe that the process of therapy along with the therapeutic relationship serve as the vehicle to help people reach their personal goals.  A person is greater than whatever the issue is that they are dealing with at the time.  Therefore, it’s important for me to do an initial assessment of a client in which I can learn about a client’s unique history, current areas of life, and strengths and skills.  After the assessment, the client and I create a treatment plan together based on the client’s particular needs.  By creating a safe and non-judgmental space, I then work with clients in a collaborative manner to help them identify their feelings, thoughts, and behaviors and discover how these three influence each other.  I help clients challenge their thoughts and beliefs and assist them in seeing other ways to perceive a situation that may lead to feeling less distressed.  I introduce strategies and techniques that may help improve a client’s well-being and increase self-awareness. I can also serve as a guide in helping people problem solve and discover different options or choices that are available to them.

I am a licensed psychologist in the state of Pennsylvania and obtained my Psy.D. at the Institute of Graduate Clinical Psychology at Widener University.  I have past experience working in a variety of settings including outpatient, inpatient, and school settings with people who present with varying issues.  I treat primarily adults and older adolescents who present a variety of issues including anxiety, depression, grief/bereavement, stress management, college preparation and adjustment, and life transitions.
