Psychology and Therapy and Assessment for Children and Teens with Learning Disabilities and Disorders

Children and adolescents with learning disabilities exhibit a wide range of symptoms including potential problems with reading, mathematics, comprehension, writing, spoken language, or reasoning abilities. The primary characteristic of a learning disability is a significant difference between a child’s achievement in some areas and his/her overall intelligence. When children or adolescents are having difficulty in school or with learning based activities, they often benefit from an analysis of their strengths and weaknesses to help develop more effective learning strategies.

To assist in this analysis, Equilibria Kids offers comprehensive psychoeducational and/or academic assessment services conducted by a certified school and/or clinical psychologist. Testing involves the following areas:

  • Academic
  • Intellectual
  • Emotional
  • Attention and concentration
  • Sensory-motor
  • Neuropsychological

In addition, a psychologist meets with caregivers to gain a thorough understanding of the child’s/adolescent’s developmental history and current learning issues. Recommendations are then made with all the information gathered in order to provide the child/adolescent, parents, and school with specific strategies tailored to the child’s/adolescent’s individual learning needs and/or behavioral issues.

In addition to providing comprehensive assessment and evaluation services, Equilibria Kids has created treatment services to help children and adolescents turn their learning differences into strengths. Group and individual treatment programs are available to help children and adolescents enhance their classroom performance, learn how to self-advocate in the classroom, recognize and use strengths to build learning abilities, increase self esteem and confidence, and to improve their social and behavior skills.

If your child or teen is struggling with a learning disorder/disability, we can help.
